Miracles, Mendacity, and a “Merciful and Nurturing God”: Layers of Engagement and Understanding in the First Jesuit Translation of the Qur’an (1662)

A noted scholar, Paul Shore, Ph.D., adjunct professor of religious studies at the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada, will discuss the Latin translation of the Qur’an by the Jesuit priest Ignazio Lomellini in 1662, one of the earliest complete translations in a western European language and a crucial document of the encounter between western Christianity and Islam in the early modern period.
