Dear Members of the Fordham Community,

On Friday, 3 April 2020, the University announced Dave Roach’s retirement after serving the University and its athletics program, and especially its student-athletes, with devotion and distinction for many years. At the same time, it announced both the appointment of Ed Kull, the senior associate athletic director, as its interim athletic director, and its intention to initiate a national search for the new permanent athletic director as soon as the COVID-19 crisis has passed.

Fordham is deeply committed to the ongoing enhancement of its athletics program. In its search the University will seek an athletic director who will be able both to draw on Fordham’s rich history in athletics and to build on all that Dave and his staff of associates and coaches have done, thus enhancing the student-athlete experience and raising the University’s athletic profile in the Atlantic-10, the Patriot League, and nationally. In light of Fordham’s location in New York City, we are confident that our search will attract a pool of experienced, accomplished, highly qualified candidates from which we will be able to choose an outstanding leader who will be able to achieve all that the University aspires to be and become in the world of American intercollegiate athletics. In this regard, Athletics will report directly to the University President effective with Mr. Kull assuming the interim role upon Mr. Roach’s retirement on 30 June.

Sincerely,

Joseph M. McShane, S.J.
President
