As New York rallies around the New York Knicks and their first NBA Finals appearance in decades, Fordham is bringing the excitement to the Bronx. Tonight, the University will illuminate Keating Hall on its Rose Hill campus with the team’s signature blue and orange, joining a citywide celebration.

The moment also celebrates alumnus Mike Breen, a longtime voice of the NBA who will be calling tonight’s finals live on ABC. Breen got his start in broadcasting at WFUV, Fordham’s public radio station housed in Keating Hall, the very building that will glow blue and orange in his honor. In fact, Breen’s signature “Bang!” call traces back to his days at the Rose Hill gym, where he would shout it from the stands and later on the WFUV airwaves when a player made a shot.

Breen is not the only legendary announcer who got his start at Fordham. WFUV has helped train generations of sports voices, including Michael Kay, Ryan Ruocco, and longtime Madison Square Garden public address announcer Mike Walczewski, who has been narrating some of the Knicks’ biggest moments for decades.

The lighting will begin at 8 p.m. on June 8, bringing a little extra “Bang!” to the Bronx as the city celebrates the Knicks’ run.
