Anjali K. Dayal, PhD, ARTS AND SCIENCES, associate professor of political science, briefed the United Nations Security Council on Dec. 15 alongside former U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Dayal was invited to offer expert insight on leadership for peace and the selection of the next U.N. secretary general, as U.N. member states began their search process that should conclude this fall.
Donxian Jiang, PhD, ARTS AND SCIENCES, assistant professor of Chinese studies, published a paper last fall titled “How Can Postcolonialism Learn from Chinese Thought?” in the German journal Zeitschrift für Ideengeschichte (Journal for Intellectual History). He also participated in a webinar discussion on civic education beyond the West on Dec. 10, hosted by the Alliance for Civics in the Academy, part of Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
Joshua Schrier, PhD, ARTS AND SCIENCES, Kim B. and Stephen E. Bepler Chair Professor of Chemistry, received a grant on Feb. 10 of $393,000 from the National Science Foundation’s Division of Materials Research for the project “Collaborative Research: Accelerated Discovery of Lead-Free Metal Halide Perovskitoids using Automation and Artificial Intelligence.” The grant will fund research on developing agentic generative AI methods and automated experimentation to accelerate the discovery of new materials for photovoltaic solar cells, lighting, lasers, photodetectors, x-ray detectors, and catalysis.
