George Drance, S.J., ARTS AND SCIENCES, artist-in-residence in the Fordham Theatre Program, is leading workshops and performances with NASHi Experimental Theatre Club in Kyiv, Ukraine, this summer.

Joshua Schrier, Ph.D., ARTS AND SCIENCES, the Kim B. and Stephen E. Bepler Chair and professor of chemistry, presented an invited plenary talk in May titled “Interpretable Predictions and Explanations With Fine-Tuned Large Language Models: A Case Study in Solid-State Materials Synthesis” at the Machine Learning in Chemistry and Materials 2025 conference held in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Fordham postdoctoral research scientist Baosen Zhang, Ph.D., was also selected to give a “rising star” talk titled “Augmented Large Language Models for Automated Extractants Discovery in f-Elements Separation.” 

Asif Siddiqi, Ph.D., ARTS AND SCIENCES, professor of history, gave the 29th Annual Hans Rausing Lecture in the Department of History and Philosophy at the University of Cambridge on June 5, titled “But Why Here? Space Technologies, the Logic of Location, and the Violence of Infrastructure.”

Lance Strate, Ph.D., ARTS AND SCIENCES, professor of communication and media studies, was appointed President (Academia) of the Global Listening Centre for 2025-2026

At the annual meeting of the Media Ecology Association, held June 5 to 8 in Mexico City, he participated in three plenary roundtables: “Why General Semantics?,” “The 40th Anniversary of ‘No Sense of Place’,” and “Remembering Gary Gumpert.”

He also presented the paper “Media Ecology and the Meaning of Meaning” at the 2025 International Communication Association convention, held June 12 to 16 in Denver.

Veronica Szczygiel, Ph.D., GRADUATE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, director of online learning, won two honorable mentions from the Catholic Media Association’s 2025 Catholic Press Awards in June. The first, in the Best Essay category, was for “How to Talk to Those Who Disagree With You—and Still Love Them.” She also earned an honorable mention in the Best Blog: Expression of Faith category for her monthly blog, Playing Fetch at Dawn.
