Daisy Deomampo, PhD, ARTS AND SCIENCES, professor of anthropology, authored a new book, Conceiving Asian Babies: Race, Capitalism, and the Market in Human Eggs. The book, which examines how the demand for “Asian eggs” reinforces biogenetic understandings of race, will be published this November by NYU Press.

Andrew Foster, PhD, ARTS AND SCIENCES, associate professor of classics, published the article “Agyrrhios’ Grain Tax Law: Micro-Finance in Fourth Century Athens” in the peer-reviewed international journal, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Studies in October. The article examines Athens’ right to collect an agricultural production tax, which it assessed upon the islands of Lemnos, Imbros, and Skyros. The law’s regulations organized the tax-farmers into syndicates that resemble the contemporary micro-lending practices of Grameen Bank in rural Bangladesh.

Patrica Peek, PhD, UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS, senior associate vice president and dean of admission, co-presented a session at the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) conference, held Oct. 6 to 10 in Minneapolis. Together with members of the high school counseling community and public college sector, she presented the talk “Finding your Spiritual Space: A Guide to Exploring Faith-Friendly Colleges.” As a part of the session, attendees were provided a rubric for assisting their students in discerning how faith-based colleges may factor into their college search process.
