Ronay Bakan, PhD, ARTS AND SCIENCES, assistant professor of political science, was honored with two awards for her dissertation titled “Counterinsurgent Urbanism: Weaponizing Land and Heritage in the Kurdish Region of Turkey” at the 2026 American Political Science Association Annual Meeting Sept. 3 to 6 in Boston. She received the Best Dissertation Award from the Middle East and North African Politics (MENA) section and an Honorable Mention for Best Field Work from the Democracy and Autocracy section.
Barbara Porco, PhD, GABELLI SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, associate dean of graduate studies, managing director of the Responsible Business Center, and clinical professor of accounting, participated in the panel discussion “Accounting for Nature: The Natural Asset Accounting Standards Board (NAASB),” at the sixth annual Accountability in a Sustainable World conference, which took place virtually Sept. 23 to 24.
Timothy Hedley, PhD, GABELLI SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, executive-in-residence and adjunct professor of accounting, also participated in the discussion. The conference convened academics, investors, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the research and frameworks shaping carbon accounting, sustainability reporting, and corporate accountability during Climate Week NYC.
