NEW YORK—Fordham University’s seventh annual Russo Lecture titled “Christ in Concrete: Catholic Fiction Today” will feature highly-acclaimed authors Alice McDermott, Thomas Kelly and Paul Elie, who will discuss their writing on Thursday, April 21, at 6 p.m. in the McNally Amphitheater at the Lincoln Center campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Paul Elie, senior editor with Farrar, Straus and Giroux, is the author of The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2003). Thomas Kelly, a Fordham alumnus, has written three books including Empire Rising (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2005), an epic, panoramic novel of New York City in 1930. Alice McDermott has written five novels including Charming Billy (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1998), which won the National Book Award for Fiction. The moderator will be George W. Hunt, S.J., the director of Fordham’s Archbishop Hughes Institute on Religion and Culture and the author of John Updike and the Three Great Things: Sex, Religion and Art (W.B. Eerdmans Publishing., 1980) and John Cheever: The Hobgoblin Company of Love (W.B. Eerdmans Publishing, 1983).
