NEW YORK — Academy Award winner and longtime human rights activist Vanessa Redgrave will kick off a four-week International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA) program with a discussion about humanitarian activism on Monday, June 2 at 9 a.m., at Fordham University School of Law, New York, N.Y. Redgrave’s remarks will be joined by a videotaped welcome from United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, as well as an address by Anwarul K. Chowdhury, Under Secretary General and High Representative for the least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing states.
The students, many of whom work for leading humanitarian agencies around the world, will spend four weeks training in crisis negotiation, international human rights law, and health and human service issues. Students will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with top-ranking United Nations and Red Cross officials as well as leading political, diplomatic and academic officials. The IDHA program is a joint effort of Fordham, the Center for International Health and Cooperation, the University of Geneva’s Multifaculty Program in Humanitarian Action and the Royal College of Surgeons.
