A Conversation with Stacey Cunningham: The First Female President of the NYSE

About the Keynote Speaker:
Stacey Cunningham is the president of the NYSE Group, which includes the New York Stock Exchange and a diverse range of equity and equity options exchanges, all wholly owned subsidiaries of Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE). She is the 67th president and the first woman to lead the NYSE Group in its 227-year history.
Most recently, she was the COO of NYSE, where she was responsible for NYSE’s five equity markets and two options markets, leading the company’s strategy for its equities, equity derivatives, and ETF businesses. Prior to serving as COO, Cunningham was president of NYSE Governance Services and served as head of sales and relationship management at NYSE. Before joining NYSE, Cunningham held several senior positions at Nasdaq.
Cunningham began her career on the NYSE trading floor, where she served as a specialist.
Cunningham earned her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University.
About the Moderator:
Doreen Mogavero was founder and CEO of Mogavero, Lee & Co., Inc., the first and only floor-based, direct access firm to be wholly owned and operated by women. Throughout her career, Mogavero has been an integral part of the Wall Street community. She began in 1975 as the clerk on the American Stock Exchange, working for her father at Tucker Anthony R.L. Day Inc. and then working for Ivan F. Boesky and Co. She was a clerk on the American Stock Exchange, then a member of the New York Futures Exchange in 1979, and then in 1980, went on to become the 12th woman in history to become a member of the prestigious New York Stock Exchange. Mogavero bought her seat in 1994 and was the second woman to buy her seat on the Exchange with funds earned working on the trading floor.
Her list of “firsts” are many, most notably, she was the first female member from the New York Stock Exchange trading floor to be appointed to a board position in 2003 as a member of the Board of Executives. Her work in financial literacy for students was recognized in 2009 by Wright State University resulting in an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Today, Doreen is one of the women featured on the wall of tribute to the women of the New York Stock Exchange, in the recently constructed Muriel Seibert Room at the Exchange. Mogavero has appeared as a regular and guest commentator on CNBC, Bloomberg TV, and the Fox Business Network. She was featured on the cover of Forbes’ Women’s Enterprise Magazine.
She continues to serve on the advisory board of Sloan Women’s Hospital at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and has recently been appointed to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s (FINRA) Series 57 committee, and as an advisory board member of the Feminist Institute, the most significant depository in the world for the study of feminist documentation.
