“Elevate Your Pitch” Workshop and Social
Thursday, November 1, 2018, 5 – 7 p.m.
The Graduate Student Association and GSAS Futures invite you to “elevate your pitch” in an evening workshop and social. Delivering an effective career pitch, or an “elevator floor speech,” that presents your research and work experience in a quick and compelling way is a vital part of performing well in job interview and networking settings. Crucial to interviewing well in any field, mastering an effective career pitch is especially pertinent on the academic job market, where your first interview could amount to a very brief affair at a conference in your discipline.
Given the opportunity, how would you present your research and work experience to a colleague in your field? A non-specialist? Your grandma?
This event will help you to translate your work across audiences as you collaborate with peers to draft pitches appropriate for a range of conversations.
Attendees will discuss when to use or leave behind specialist language depending on the needs of the moment while still conveying the substance of their research along with their unique set of skills and experiences. Come “elevate your pitch” in a light and friendly setting.
You’ll also have an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming GSAS Three Minute Thesis competition. Pizza and refreshments will be served!
