IPED Lecture: “Understanding Microfinance and its Role in Economic Development”

Erick Rengifo, Ph.D., associate professor of economics, will discuss microfinance and its role in economic development. Professor Rengifo is the founder and director of the Center for International Policy Studies (CIPS) and an active scholar with interests in econometric forecasts, risk management, insurance, microfinance, and micro-insurance. Professor Rengifo also has extensive private sector experience as an economic consultant, an independent investment and project counselor, and as a corporation controller. He has also been a university professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and Universidad Nacional de San Marcos (Perú). Erick Rengifo holds a Ph.D. in economics with a concentration in finance and Econometrics from the Catholic University of Louvain-Belgium. His academic background includes an M.A. in economics from the Catholic University of Louvain-Belgium, an M.A. in finance from the Universidad del Pacífico, and an M.A. in economics with a concentration in quantitative methods in economics from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Perú).
