The Play of the Weather
Sunday, May 1, 2022, 2 – 3:15 p.m.
Come join the Fordham Medieval Dramatists for a free outdoor performance of The Play of the Weather! The Play of the Weather is an early Tudor great hall play in which the Roman god Jupiter descends to Earth to solicit the views of English men and women on the ideal state of the weather. He must reconcile their disparate views and preferences to create harmony between earth and heaven—but how to do so and leave everyone satisfied? This play examines political power, the responsibilities of leadership, and the use and abuse of Earth’s resources, themes that pair well with the environmental advocacy mission of our community partners, the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club. The students of the Medieval Drama in Performance course invite you to attend an afternoon of playful spectacle with all modern notions of theater thrown aside!
