Webinar—”Mental Health in a World in Crisis: The Power of Community and Accompaniment”
Wednesday, October 14, 12 – 1 p.m.
Conflict, displacement, detention, uncertainty, and the erosion of basic services can take a profound toll. But effective mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) is not just about clinical care.
Join the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs and Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) MHPSS leaders to explore how localized, community-based approaches can strengthen resilience, identify those at greatest risk, and provide support in complex, rapidly changing environments. A central principle of JRS’s approach is that mental health support belongs to the community. Families, peers, neighbors, and frontline staff can all help prevent distress from becoming longer-term mental health conditions when they have the knowledge and support they need.
Why Attend:
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how communities can support the psychological needs of people on the move, reduce stigma, and strengthen awareness and support for this work.
Speakers:
Noelle Jouan, regional MHPSS officer, Middle East and North Africa; Moses Mukasa Protection and MHPSS officer, Eastern and Southern Africa; Katerina Jelissejeva, MHPSS office, European region; and Katie Mullins-Ali, director of mental health and psychosocial support programmes
