SUMMARY:Alumni Chapter of Houston: 2026 MFAH Picasso-Klee-Matisse Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join the Alumni Chapter of Houston on a private tour of Heinz Berggruen’s collection of lesser-known pieces by Picasso\, Klee\, Matisse\, and others in the U.S. debut of this important German collection. \nTicket costs $28 each and will be distributed at the museum. \nAbout the tour: \nHighlighting the careers of Pablo Picasso and Paul Klee\, as well as Henri Matisse’s signature cut-outs\, Alberto Giacometti’s haunting sculptures\, and the works of Georges Braque and Paul Cezanne\, this exhibition explores the relationship of famed gallerist and collector Heinz Berggruen with the artistic community of postwar Paris and beyond. Assembled thematically\, the collection reflects an intimate\, personal approach to the European avant-garde that shines new light on titans of the 20th-century art world. \nBetween the 1940s and the 1990s\, Berggruen amassed hundreds of modern masterworks\, many of them directly from the artists. As a dealer\, he became his own best client\, forming a singular collection guided by his tastes and affinities. Picasso–Klee–Matisse: Masterpieces from the Museum Berggruen presents more than 95 of the works—paintings\, watercolors\, drawings\, and sculptures—on loan from the Museum Berggruen in Berlin. The exhibition combines rich focal areas\, including still life\, portraits\, the human figure\, and landscapes\, with in-depth presentations devoted to individual artists. \nSpace is limited and we encourage you to register early. RSVP by July 24. \nPlease consider making a gift of $25 or more to support an area of your choice at Fordham. If you cannot attend\, you can make your gift online.
