DESCRIPTION:Solidarity on Tap is a simple gathering for socializing and social justice. The Ignatian Solidarity Network\, Jesuit Volunteer Corps\, Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest\, Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University\, Boston College School of Theology and Ministry\, Jesuitical\, along with Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and other local partners\, welcome all to Solidarity on Tap | San Diego. \nFood and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be available for purchase. All are welcome (21 and over). \nAround 7:30 p.m.\, we will have a reflection titled “Cry of Creation: Our Time to Act\,” by the Rev. Jeanette Bragunier and Philip Petrie\, founding members of SanDiego350. \nWhat does it mean to be a good steward of God’s creation? Might our current ecological crisis be an opportunity to create a more sustainable and more spiritual civilization? How might each of us do more to move our culture in that direction? This talk will address these questions through the lens of our presenters’ activism with an emphasis on solutions both individual and collective. \nThe Rev. Jeanette Bragunier grew up in a small desert mining community in Arizona\, where she experienced the importance of community life\, something that has never left her. This core value of nurturing healthy community led to her passion of building a healthier and more sustainable planet. Her second vocation as a pastor has empowered her call to work through the theological lens that all life is sacred. She believes that as people of faith\, we are to work on behalf of creation in solidarity with people most affected by the ecological and economic damage posed by climate change. Jeanette is a United Methodist pastor currently serving as associate pastor at Mission Hills UMC\, and also serves as the coordinator for the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice. Her climate activism has involved developing a children’s group of Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots\, an adult Earthcare group. A co-founder and volunteer at SanDiego350\, she recently participated in “Engaging the Climate Crisis\,” a faith-based training experience. She has a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Northern Arizona University and a master’s in Christian leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary. Married to Charlie\, they have two young adult children\, Bella and Austin\, and their dog\, Coconut. They love to camp\, travel\, and serve together. \nPhilip Petrie is a founding member of SanDiego350\, an all-volunteer organization committed to action on climate change. As a member of SanDiego350’s Community Presentation Team\, he gives presentations on climate to diverse organizations around the San Diego area. Phil also attends St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral\, where he co-founded Simpler Living\, a creation care ministry. He is an artist\, working primarily in oils\, and has lived and exhibited in New York\, Chicago\, and Indiana. He currently lives in San Diego with his wife\, Mary Doak\, and daughter\, Sara. His foci on Christian spirituality\, the environment\, and the visual arts often intersect\, and invariably make his life richer.

Wiegand Foundation. \nAbout Leon Cooperman \nAt the end of 1991\, following 25 years of service\, Lee retired from his positions as a general partner of Goldman\, Sachs & Co. and as chairman and chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management to organize and launch an investment-management business\, Omega Advisors\, Inc.\, which he ran for 27 years before converting it to a family office at the end of 2018. At its height\, Omega Advisors managed more than $10 billion of client funds. \nAt Goldman Sachs\, Lee spent 15 years as a partner and one year (1990–1991) as of-counsel to the management committee. In 1989\, he became chairman and chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and chief investment officer of the firm’s equity product line\, managing the GS Capital Growth Fund\, an open-end mutual fund\, for one and a half years. Prior to those appointments\, Lee had spent 22 years in the investment research department as partner-in-charge\, co-chairman of the investment policy committee and chairman of the stock selection committee. For nine consecutive years\, he was voted the number-one portfolio strategist in Institutional Investor Magazine’s annual All-America Research Team survey. \nA designated chartered financial analyst\, Lee is a senior member and past president of the New York Society of Security Analysts; chairman emeritus of the Saint Barnabas Development Foundation; a member of the board of overseers of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business; a member of the board of directors of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation; a member of the investment committee of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center; and board chairman of Green Spaces\, a committee organized to rebuild 13 parks in Newark\, New Jersey. \nLee received his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and his undergraduate degree from Hunter College. He is a recipient of Roger Williams University’s Honorary Doctor of Finance and of Hunter College’s Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters; an inductee into Hunter College’s Hall of Fame; and a recipient of the 2003 American Jewish Committee (AJC) Wall Street Human Relations Award\, the 2006 Seton Hall Humanitarian of the Year Award\, the 2009 Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark Award for Caring\, and the 2009 UJA-Federation of New York’s Wall Street and Financial Services Division Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2013\, Lee was inducted into Alpha Magazine’s Hedge Fund Hall of Fame and was honored by the AJC at their 50th anniversary with the Herbert H. Lehman Award for his professional achievements\, philanthropic efforts\, and longstanding support for AJC. In 2014\, Columbia Business School awarded Lee its Distinguished Leadership in Business Award\, and Bloomberg Markets named him to its fourth annual “50 Most Influential” list (one of only ten money managers globally to be so honored\, selected “based on what they’re doing now\, rather than past achievements”). He was inducted into the Horatio Alger Association in April 2015. \nLee and his wife\, Toby\, have two sons and three grandchildren.

DESCRIPTION:Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglitz grew up during the golden age of capitalism in Gary\, Indiana\, a steel town whose fortunes rose and fell with the waves of industrialization and deindustrialization. But even during Stiglitz’s childhood\, life didn’t seem so golden. He saw inequality\, racial discrimination\, and labor strife all around\, and that was when capitalism was thriving and the middle class\, ascendant. In the ensuing years things grew far worse. Back in Gary for his 55th high school reunion in 2015\, Stiglitz was dismayed by the decrepit state of his hometown and the economic and physical miseries borne by many of his classmates. \nWhat had happened? Stiglitz has long sounded the alarm about growing economic inequality in the United States. As chief economist of the World Bank and Chairman of Clinton’s Council of Economic Advisors\, he saw first-hand the toll that financial deregulation\, globalization\, and government inaction can take on a community. This has played out over and over again in cities and towns across the United States\, feeding into the resentment that fueled Donald Trump’s election in 2016. The question we should ask ourselves today\, Stiglitz says\, is “What can we do about it?” \nIn his new book\, People\, Power and Profits: Progressive Capitalism for an Age of Discontent\, Stiglitz answers that question by laying out a 21st Century Social Contract to rebuild the American middle class and reinvigorate the American economy. DESCRIPTION:This event is intended to shine a spotlight on the drivers and current status of ESG integration in fixed income\, focus on developments at the largest credit rating agencies with regard to ESG integration in the assessment of creditworthiness\, and explore how investment management firms are considering ESG risks and opportunities in their fixed income investing. The panel discussions will also explore some of the unique challenges faced by fixed income investors given the added complexities introduced by fixed income securities\, the paths to addressing these\, and expectations for 2019 and beyond. As the challenges involved in integrating ESG factors vary between investment-grade credits and non-investment-grade credits\, including private and emerging market firms\, separate panel discussions will focus on these two market segments.

DESCRIPTION:The Diversity Networking Banquet is one of Career Services’ longest-running programs regarding diversity initiatives. This coming April\, the banquet will be celebrating its 15th year. The evening is designed to provide networking opportunities for our increasingly multicultural and diverse student populations and potential employers. It is a great opportunity to meet bright and prospective individuals for your recruiting needs. During the dining portion of the event\, you will be able to hear from the top student finalists participating in our interdisciplinary competition. \nThe banquet is set up to allow students to select the employers with whom they would like to have dinner and network. Prior to the banquet\, there is a networking reception for employers and students to meet\, followed by the banquet. DESCRIPTION:Donna Rapaccioli\, Ph.D.\, dean of the Gabelli School of Business\, invites you to join her for a conversation with Lidia Bastianich and Stephen Katsouros\, S.J.\, founding dean and executive director of Arrupe College at Loyola University Chicago. \nLidia Bastianich is an Emmy Award-winning public television host\, a best-selling cookbook author\, a restaurateur\, and owner of a flourishing food and entertainment enterprise. The conversation will touch upon a range of topics including Bastianich’s career trajectory and philanthropic priorities\, notably her service on the Arrupe College Founding Board of Directors. Arrupe College is a two year college of Loyola University Chicago that ensures affordability while providing care for the whole person to a diverse population\, many of whom are the first in their family to pursue higher education. Father Katsouros\, a member of the Northeast Province of the Society of Jesus and former president of Loyola School in Manhattan\, founded Arrupe College in 2015. \nAutographed copies of both Father Katsouros’ new book\, Come to Believe: How the Jesuits Are Reinventing Education Again\, and Bastianich’s new cookbook\, Celebrate Like an Italian: 220 Foolproof Recipes That Make Every Meal a Party\, will be available for purchase. \nAbout Lidia Bastianich \nLidia is an Emmy award-winning public television host\, a best‐selling cookbook author with a dozen books published to date\, a successful restaurateur\, and owner of a flourishing food and entertainment business. Most importantly\, Lidia has accomplished all of this by marrying her two passions—her family and food—to create multiple culinary endeavors alongside her two children\, Joseph and Tanya. Lidia’s cookbooks\, co-authored with her daughter Tanya\, include Lidia’s Celebrate Like an Italian\, Lidia’s Mastering the Art of Italian Cuisine\, Lidia’s Commonsense Italian Cooking\, Lidia’s Favorite Recipes\, Lidia’s Italy in America\, Lidia Cooks from the Heart of Italy\, and Lidia’s Italy—all companion books to the Emmy-winning and four-time nominated television series Lidia’s Kitchen\, Lidia’s Italy in America\, and Lidia’s Italy. Lidia’s most recent book is her memoir\, My American Dream: A Life of Love\, Family\, and Food\, which was released on April 3\, 2018. Lidia is the owner/co-owner of four acclaimed New York City restaurants: Felidia\, Becco\, Esca\, and Del Posto. Along with her daughter Tanya\, she owns Lidia’s Pittsburgh and Lidia’s Kansas City\, as well as Felidia. She is also a partner in Eataly NYC\, Chicago\, Boston\, Los Angeles\, Las Vegas\, and Sao Paolo\, Brazil. Together with Tanya and son-in-law Corrado\, Lidia also has developed a line of artisanal pastas and all-natural sauces\, LIDIA’S\, which are sold at fine food stores nationwide. Lidia is a member of Les Dames D’Escoffier and founding member of Women Chefs and Restaurateurs\, two non-profit organizations of women leaders in the food and hospitality industries. She is also a champion for the United Nations Association of the United States of America’s Adopt-A-Future program\, in support of refugee education. Among the numerous awards and accolades Lidia has earned are seven James Beard Awards (Outstanding Chef\, Television Food Show\, Best Chefs in America\, Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America\, Specials 2016\, 2017\, and 2018)\, and two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Culinary Host (2013 and 2018). \nAbout Stephen Katsouros\, S.J. \nA member of the United States Northeast Province of the Society of Jesus\, Steve Katsouros\, S.J.\, is the founding dean and executive director of Arrupe College at Loyola University Chicago. Arrupe is a two-year college at Loyola’s Water Tower Campus that continues the Jesuit tradition of offering a rigorous liberal arts education to a diverse population\, many of whom are the first in their family to pursue higher education. Arrupe College has graduated two classes since opening in 2015. Prior to arriving in Chicago\, Father Katsouros served as the director of the Institute for Catholic Educational Leadership and associate dean of the School of Education at the University of San Francisco. From 2002 until 2011\, Father Katsouros was president of Loyola\, a coed Jesuit high school in New York City. His doctorate\, from Columbia University Teachers College\, is in organizational leadership; his research interests are leadership\, governance\, and institutional performance. He has worked as a service program director\, dean of students\, and advancement director. Father Katsouros counseled runaways at Covenant House in Times Square\, taught at the first Nativity-model school on Manhattan’s Lower East Side\, and co-founded another Nativity school in Harlem. He was ordained in 1998. Currently\, Father Katsouros is a trustee on the boards of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School\, Chicago; Regis University\, Denver; Saint Mary’s College\, South Bend\, Indiana; and Sacred Heart Schools\, Chicago. He delivered the Cardinal Bernardin lecture at Georgetown University in March 2017. His book about the launch of Arrupe College\, Come to Believe: How the Jesuits are Reinventing Education (Again)\, was published by Orbis Press in June 2017. \n
