DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Commuting Students Association’s annual Commuter Appreciation Reception (CAR). The event will feature a luncheon\, speeches by representatives of the Commuting Students Association and the Commuter Student Services staff\, and an awards ceremony. This year our keynote speaker is Chief Diversity Officer Rafael Zapata\, who will share his perspective on the challenges commuters face\, a perspective drawn from his work on college campuses as well as his time as a student commuter. Father Lito will also join us to give the blessing. \nTraditionally\, CAR served to recognize the efforts of CSA members\, with a special emphasis on Executive Board and graduating seniors. This year and moving forward\, the ceremony is open to commuter leaders all around campus\, who will be honored through the Exemplary Commuter Awards. These awards recognize the hard work of commuter leaders who continuously exhibit the ability to lead\, empower\, and inspire fellow students within and outside of CSA. You can nominate commuters you know for these awards! Commuters can be nominated for their leadership positions in clubs\, academics\, athletics\, or other creative outlets. \nThis event is supported by the Office for Student​ Involvement\, the Office for Multicultural Affairs\, and Campus Ministry.

DESCRIPTION:Distinguished Professor of Theology Elizabeth A. Johnson\, C.S.J.\, represents the very best of Fordham. Spring 2018 will be Sister Johnson’s final semester before retirement. In honor of her many contributions\, and to celebrate the publication of her most recent book\, Creation and the Cross (Orbis Books\, 2018)\, the Department of Theology cordially invites you to a very special event. Sister Johnson will engage in conversation with noted Jesuit writer James Martin\, S.J.\, about the ideas in her book and theological life in the church today. \nA member of the faculty since 1991\, Sister Johnson is the author of numerous acclaimed books\, the recipient of fifteen honorary doctorates\, and a former president of both the Catholic Theological Society of America and the American Theological Society. At Fordham\, Sister Johnson has mentored dozens of doctoral dissertations and is a beloved teacher of undergraduate and graduate students alike. \nThe lecture is complimentary. \nPlease note that all donations received in connection with this event will go to support the Elizabeth Johnson Endowed Scholarship\, a fund that annually provides support to a female doctoral student in Theology.

DESCRIPTION:Attendees are welcome to join us for the parade AND/OR brunch. If you join us for brunch\, we will walk over to the parade location together. If you join us for the parade only\, please meet us at our lineup location at noon. \nRegistration is required for both the brunch and the parade. However\, the brunch requires payment; the parade is free. \nBrunch\n10 a.m. | Yale Club\nA pre-parade brunch will be hosted at 10 a.m. at the Yale Club. The brunch costs $40 for adults and $20 for children. \nDuring this brunch\, we will hear from special guest speaker John Harrington as well as Joseph M. McShane\, S.J.\, president of Fordham University. \nJohn Harrington was educated at Columbia University\, University College\, Dublin\, and he earned his PhD in literature from Rutgers University. He has written extensively on Irish literature and culture\, including The Irish Beckett (1991)\, The Irish Play on the New York Stage (1997)\, and The Life of the Neighborhood Playhouse on Grand Street (2007). He edited W. W. Norton’s anthology Modern and Contemporary Irish Drama (1991; new edition 2008) and Irish Theater in America (2009). While continuing to teach and to attend academic conferences\, Harrington also lectures frequently on theater and Irish culture in non-academic settings such as the Guggenheim Museum\, Lincoln Center Festival\, New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater\, the Dublin Theatre Festival\, the Manhattan Theatre Club\, and others.
