SUMMARY:Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Pi Day/STEM
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate Pi Day and help improve coverage of STEM topics on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian\, ongoing editing support\, reference materials\, and refreshments. This event is free\, and people of all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to participate. \nWikipedia for Educators at Fordham (fordham.edu/wikipedia) supports and promotes the use of Wikipedia in the classroom\, organizes edit-a-thons on campus\, and promotes Wikipedia events in the community. This is an open group made up of Fordham faculty\, staff\, and students\, as well as NYC residents. \nFaculty\, staff\, and students who edit Wikipedia share their scholarly expertise to evaluate articles\, analyzing the content and quality of sources. And it also provides an opportunity to model and teach digital citizenship skills. These are just some of the benefits of getting involved with Wikipedia-based projects

SUMMARY:Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Celebrating Women's History
DESCRIPTION:This event is designed to improve coverage of women to mitigate the gender gap on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian\, ongoing editing support\, reference materials\, and refreshments. This event is free\, and people of all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to participate. \nWikipedia is the largest knowledge base on the planet and although Wikipedia is the fifth-most visited website\, its lack of diverse race and gender content reflects the homogeneity of its editors. In a 2018 survey\, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female (see the “Gender bias on Wikipedia” entry). Fewer than 17% of the biographies on Wikipedia are of women. \nParticipate in this edit-a-thon and help increase the coverage of women on Wikipedia.

SUMMARY:Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Art+Feminism

SUMMARY:Tour of the Louis Armstrong House Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour exploring how Louis Armstrong lived! He was one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world when he chose the working-class neighborhood of Corona\, Queens\, to be his home in 1943. “And you take this neighborhood we live in\,” Louis said in 1964. “We’re right out here with the rest of the colored folk and the Puerto Ricans and Italians and the Hebrew cats. We don’t need to move out in the suburbs to some big mansion with lots of servants and yardmen and things.” \nThe Louis Armstrong House Museum sustains and promotes the cultural\, historical\, and humanitarian legacy of Louis Armstrong by preserving and interpreting Armstrong’s house and grounds\, collecting and sharing archival materials that document Armstrong’s life and legacy\, and presenting public programs such as exhibits\, concerts\, lectures\, and film screenings. The museum seeks to educate and inspire people of all ages\, origins\, and locations. \nPlease note: The entire ground floor (which includes the Welcome Center\, Museum Store\, exhibit area\, and restroom) of the museum is wheelchair-accessible. The historic house tour requires the ability to climb two sets of steep stairs and to stand for 40 minutes. Visitors that are unable to take the tour receive a virtual tour instead. \nAfter the tour\, we’ll eat lunch at a nearby restaurant. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet some of your fellow alumni! \nThis event costs $60 per person\, which includes the tour and lunch. \nAn email reminder with meeting details will be sent to all registrants one week prior to the event. Please reach out if you have any questions\, and we hope to see you there!
