SUMMARY:Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Art+Feminism
DESCRIPTION:This event is designed to improve coverage of women to mitigate the gender gap on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian\, ongoing editing support\, reference materials\, and refreshments. This event is free\, and people of all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to participate. \nWikipedia is the largest knowledge base on the planet and although Wikipedia is the fifth-most visited website\, its lack of diverse race and gender content reflects the homogeneity of its editors. In a 2018 survey\, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female (see the “Gender bias on Wikipedia” entry). Fewer than 17% of the biographies on Wikipedia are of women. \nParticipate in this edit-a-thon and help increase the coverage of women on Wikipedia.

SUMMARY:Tour of the Louis Armstrong House Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour exploring how Louis Armstrong lived! He was one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world when he chose the working-class neighborhood of Corona\, Queens\, to be his home in 1943. “And you take this neighborhood we live in\,” Louis said in 1964. “We’re right out here with the rest of the colored folk and the Puerto Ricans and Italians and the Hebrew cats. We don’t need to move out in the suburbs to some big mansion with lots of servants and yardmen and things.” \nThe Louis Armstrong House Museum sustains and promotes the cultural\, historical\, and humanitarian legacy of Louis Armstrong by preserving and interpreting Armstrong’s house and grounds\, collecting and sharing archival materials that document Armstrong’s life and legacy\, and presenting public programs such as exhibits\, concerts\, lectures\, and film screenings. The museum seeks to educate and inspire people of all ages\, origins\, and locations. \nPlease note: The entire ground floor (which includes the Welcome Center\, Museum Store\, exhibit area\, and restroom) of the museum is wheelchair-accessible. The historic house tour requires the ability to climb two sets of steep stairs and to stand for 40 minutes. Visitors that are unable to take the tour receive a virtual tour instead. \nAfter the tour\, we’ll eat lunch at a nearby restaurant. SUMMARY:SOLD OUT: Day at the United Nations
DESCRIPTION:Please join your fellow Fordham alumni and friends for this truly unique experience. We will begin the day with a guided tour of the U.N.\, and then we’ll enjoy a private briefing from a U.N. official. Tour \nThis tour offers an exciting opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes view of the organization at work. Visit the newly renovated General Assembly Hall\, the Security Council Chamber\, the Trusteeship Council Chamber\, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber in the renovated Conference Building. Learn about how the United Nations addresses issues such as disarmament\, peace and security\, human rights\, and the Millennium Development Goals. \nSpeakers Bureau Briefing \nA United Nations expert will provide an in-depth look into the latest issues on their agenda. Accepted forms of identification include passports\, driver’s licenses\, and national identity cards. \nFor security reasons\, children under five years of age are not permitted on the tour. \nThis event does not include lunch\, but the U.N. will recommend nearby restaurants. There’s also a small cafeteria that serves snacks located at the U.N. \nThis event costs $30 per person. \nAn email reminder with meeting details will be sent to all registrants one week prior to the event.
