Tania Tetlow was sworn in as the 33rd president of Fordham University, the first layperson and first woman to assume the role. She was appointed in February and takes over from Joseph M. McShane, S.J., who has led Fordham since 2003.

You have to go back to the Yankees in 1943. They had Johnny Murphy and Hank Bowery, two Fordham guys on the roster. It’s very cool. I’m very proud to be a Ram.

Endowment gives $8M to support Hispanic Catholic pastoral leaders

Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. is making a $7.9 million grant to the University of Notre Dame for a collaborative initiative to form the country’s next generation of Hispanic Catholic pastoral leaders. The university, in partnership with Boston College, will work to bring together 16 other Catholic institutions to lead the Haciendo Caminos initiative. Other partners include Aquinas Institute of Theology, Barry University, and Fordham University, among others.

Baby born to NJ mom 8 years after her life-saving heart transplant

[Colette] Crowell, 30, became a member of the extended Cutinella clan when Thomas’ heart was transplanted into the then-Fordham University student. Crowell was a cross-country runner in high school until a congestive heart failure diagnosis derailed her athletic career and left her with a grim prognosis of transplant or death.

He only gave pitching a try when a new neighbor that moved in down in Florida where he grew up had pitched some in the majors. His name was Juan Alvarez. He said give this a try. He was pretty good at it.
