In the case of the Federal Reserve, Supreme Court appears to carve out a murky exception
The Associated Press 01-23-2026
Several legal experts say the justices are on shaky ground. The Fed, they argue, is similar in many ways to the Federal Trade Commission or the National Labor Relations Board, agencies Congress intended to be independent but whose officials Trump has been able to fire without pushback from the high court. “There’s no historical grounds for distinguishing the Fed from other independent agencies that Congress has designed,” said Jane Manners, a law professor at Fordham University. “The whole argument was premised on the idea that the Fed is different. They haven’t explained exactly why.”

Trump Greenland Gambit Bolsters NATO Mission, Avoids Illegal War
Bloomberg Law 01-22-2026
“The bottom line is the denouement of the Greenland episode that Trump engineered at Davos doesn’t mean the end of international law restricting the use of force in world affairs. Rather, he has reinforced the fact that the UN Charter is about preventing World War III among the most powerful nuclear states. And doing so requires jolting our allies and partners out of their old complacency and inertia,” wrote Thomas H. Lee, a professor at Fordham Law School.

However, now is the time to make that appointment with a doctor or clinic to check on things before it is too late,” wrote Christina Greer, Ph.D., associate professor at Fordham University.

Homily: A Jesuit approach to being pro-life
America Magazine 01-23-2026
Finally, Joseph Koterski, S.J., whom I knew a bit better, was also a Jesuit priest and professor of philosophy at Fordham University. Father Koterski had served on the board of University Faculty for Life and was a man remarkable in his generosity. Pretty much any religious sister or priest of a whole generation on the Eastern Seaboard had Father Koterski as a teacher or spiritual director at some point.
