What do you do at Fordham?
I’ve been working in IT for five years as an endpoint services technician. My team is responsible for a lot, but the main thing we do is resolve ticket escalations. We address requests detailing what technological issues someone is experiencing and what steps have been taken to solve that issue.
We also take on various projects. For example, right now we’re working on an inventory project across all campuses, collecting data on computers, serial numbers, who’s using what, and making sure everything is up to date. There’s always something new we’re tackling.
Tell me a little about your background:
I grew up in the Bronx, though I did spend one year living in Baltimore as a kid. I attended NYC College of Technology in Brooklyn, where I studied computer science and computer engineering.
What’s a fun fact about you that most colleagues don’t know?
I come from a big family: I have eight siblings, and my mom also raised two of my cousins, so they feel like bonus siblings. I’m the second oldest, and I’m really big on family. I’m also the favorite uncle—at least I like to think so—with six nieces and nephews.
What work are you most proud of doing in your time here?
Last year, the University’s antivirus program pushed out a faulty update that completely shut everything down. I’m really proud of how our team handled it. It took a huge effort to get everything back up and running—we even came in over the weekend to make it happen. Seeing everyone in IT come together to get things working again was a great moment.
What do you think makes Fordham special?
The sense of community. People genuinely care about each other and want things to go well for one another. There’s a positive outlook, and people are kind and understanding, which really stands out, especially in IT, since I work with so many different people across the University.
What is the last best thing you read:
I read the first two books in a trilogy series called The Kingkiller Chronicle. I really enjoy the way it’s written, with great storytelling that jumps across different periods of the main character’s life. It has elements of magic, but what I like is that it’s also grounded and scientific—the magic actually makes sense within the world.
If you’re a Harry Potter or Star Wars fan, you’d probably enjoy this series too!
Do you have a pro tech tip to share?
Use OneDrive to back up your files. I know of an employee who just got a brand-new laptop and it’s no longer functioning—the motherboard died. If they were not using OneDrive, which is part of Fordham’s Office 365 subscription, or any sort of online backup service, they would have lost all their files.
