Fordham has teamed up with the New York Liberty to provide internship opportunities to students and special events for the entire Fordham community.
The new partnership will be celebrated on Aug. 29 with Fordham Day at Barclays Center. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends are all invited to cheer on the New York Liberty as they take on the Chicago Sky in Brooklyn. A limited number of complimentary tickets are reserved for employees and students; employees can claim a free ticket here. Discounted tickets are also available for purchase at this exclusive Fordham link. All Rams in attendance at Fordham Day will get a limited-edition, co-branded T-shirt at the game.
The University’s partnership with the WNBA team comes at a momentous time for women’s basketball. The WNBA is celebrating its 30th anniversary and just inked a historic deal that raised players’ salaries, increased revenue sharing with the league, and boosted their benefits.
The partnership also offers new methods to connect with key audiences and increase awareness of Fordham, including through prominent signage and other visuals on display at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center during WNBA games. The exposure to fans in the stands and on TV, in a borough beyond Fordham’s main campuses, presented a high-impact opportunity, said Justin Bell, Fordham’s vice president for marketing and communications.
“Partnering with the New York Liberty, an organization that exemplifies courage, community, and advocacy both on and off the court, offers a strong alignment with Fordham’s values,” said Bell. “As the Jesuit University of New York, this partnership allows us to deepen our roots across the city, introduce our students to incredible experiential learning opportunities, expand our brand presence, and engage New Yorkers around a shared purpose. Together, we’re defining what two great institutions can achieve when teaming up for what matters.”
Also teaming up are the two partners’ MVMs—most valuable mascots. Just as Ramses brings Fordham’s spirit to life at games and on social media, the Liberty’s mascot Ellie the Elephant rallies fans at Barclays and beyond. Stay tuned to Fordham’s social channels as we welcome Ellie to Fordham later this month. You can also see both together in person along with the New York Liberty at Fordham Day.
And if you can’t make it on Aug. 29, join colleagues at another community event this winter when Fordham will partner with the team on a charitable holiday toy drive for children and teens. Go Rams—and the New York Liberty!
