Martin Chase, S.J., A&S,
associate professor of history, has received a fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies and the American-Scandinavian Foundation to work on an edition of Late Medieval Icelandic Devotional Poetry. Father Chase will conduct his research at the University of Iceland and the Arnamagnæanske Institut at the University of Copenhagen.
Susan J. Dudash, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of French, has received the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Medieval Studies from the Medieval Institute at the University of Notre Dame for the academic year 2008-2009 to research a book project, Giving Voice to the People: Poetic and Theological Responses to Social Class Conflict in Medieval France, 1270-1422.
Elisabeth Frost, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of English and director of Poets Out Loud, was nominated by poet Alice Fulton for the McGovern Award from Ashland Press, for her manuscript, All of Us. The award is named for press co-founder Robert McGovern, long-time chair of the English Department at Ashland University.
Robert H. Lewis, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of mathematics, attended the Applications of Computer Algebra conference and spoke on “Polynomial Equations Arising in Global Positioning Systems and in Nash Equilibria,” in Linz, Austria in August. He also spoke on “Determining Flexibility of Molecules Using Resultants of Polynomial Systems,” at the Third International Conference on Algebraic Biology at Castle of Hagenberg, Austria in the same month.

artist-in-residence in the Department of Theatre and Visual Arts, was awarded the Director’s Citation at the Black Maria Film & Video Festival.

professor of mathematics, has co-published “On the Zeros of Certain Epstein Zeta Functions,” with Italian mathematician and Fields Medal recipient Enrico Bombieri, Ph.D., in Forum Mathematicum.
Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, delivered a presentation in September at the Consulate of Finland titled “Media Markets and Trends in the U.S.” Napoli also provided expert testimony to the New York City Council’s Committee on Civil Rights as part of a panel on diversity in the advertising industry.

associate professor of management systems and director of The Deming Scholars MBA Program, presented the first W. Edwards Deming Lecture on “Quality in the Surgeon’s World,” at the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Discipline session of the 2008 Annual Clinical Assembly of Osteopathic Specialists in Boca Raton, Fla., in September.
