assistant professor of theology, has just returned to Fordham from an eight-month Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship. Hultgren was a visiting researcher at the University of Tübingen in Germany, studying theology of the apostle Paul within the context of apocalyptic Judaism in the first century.

professor of adult education, presented sessions on blended and online learning at University of Manitoba as Fall Semester Distinguished Faculty Speaker on Oct. 15. She also spoke on “Revealing Empowerment and Support of Learners: Bringing Transformative Learning to Life,” at the Annual Conference for Adult Secondary Education Council (AESC) in Schools of Canada, in Manitoba on Oct. 16.

Michael. E. Latham, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of history, traveled to Italy in October to deliver an invited lecture titled “The Crisis of Modernization and the Neoliberal Triumph, 1965-1980,” at the University of Bologna. In November, he will present two papers at Beijing University: “The Cold War in the Third World, 1963-1975,” and “Redirecting the Revolution? The USA and the Failure of Nation Building in South Vietnam.”
Tina Maschi, Ph.D., GSS,
assistant professor of social work, has received a two-year grant from the CSWE Gero-Ed Center for “Moving Stories Project: Older Adults Talk About Their Experience Before, During and After Immigration.” Maschi is one of 20 recipients of the grant, which helps to interest social work students in working with the aged population.
Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, delivered a presentation on Oct. 9 on the “State of the News Business in the U.S.” to the directors of the Finnish newspaper Kalava. On Sept. 26, Professor Napoli participated in a panel discussion on media in the 2008 elections at a conference, “Race, Gender, and the Media in the 2008 Elections,” at St. John’s University School of Law.
Joyce Nilsson Orsini, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of management systems and director of The Deming Scholars MBA Program, presented a three-part lecture on the $700 billion bailout, management practices, and Japanese and American life expectancy developments, to Japanese businessmen on Oct. 2 in New York city. The lecture was sponsored by the Japan Productivity Center.

associate professor of theology, published “Honest to God: Confession and Desire,” in Thinking through Faith: New Perspectives from Orthodox Christian Scholars (SVS Press, 2008). He co-authored “Augustine and the Orthodox: The ‘West’ in the ‘East,’” in Orthodox Readings of Augustine(SVS Press, 2008). He co-edited both books.
