From May 21 to June 6, the classroom for 14 Fordham students became a 200-mile walk across Spain from the city of León to Santiago de Compostela.
Walking the Camino de Santiago, an interdisciplinary capstone course led by history professors David Myers, Ph.D., and Richard Gyug, Ph.D., introduced students to the route that pilgrims followed across Spain on their way to the burial site of St. James.
This was the sixth Fordham class to make the journey on the route, which has been traveled since medieval times. In addition to reading and discussing the history all around them, they also took in stunning vistas and the ancient ruins of the Spanish countryside, as they remained on the lookout for signs featuring a scallop shell and yellow arrows, which mark the way of the trail.
