Chief Judge Dennis G. Jacobs of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York will deliver the annual John F. Sonnett Memorial Lecture on “The Secret Life of Judges” at Fordham University School of Law onMonday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. in McNally Amphitheatre at the Lincoln Center campus.

Jacobs became chief judge on Oct. 1, succeeding Judge John M. Walker Jr. From 1973 to 1992, Jacobs worked as a lawyer in private practice in New York. Former President George H.W. Bush nominated Jacobs to serve on the 2nd Circuit in 1992. Jacobs earned a bachelor’s degree from Queens College of the City University of New York, and received both a master’s and law degree from New York University.

Over the years, the Sonnett lecture series has featured some of the most prominent jurists in the English-speaking world. Lecturers have included the chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, the chief justice of Ireland, and two lords chancellor of Great Britain.
