Guest lecturers Peter Steinfels, Ph.D., co-director of the Fordham Center on Religion and Culture, and Rabbi Carol Levithan, senior director of learning, outreach and adult programs at the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, delivered the annual Nostra Aetate Lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Pope Auditorium at Lowenstein Center, on the Lincoln Center campus.
This year’s lecture, “Passing on Religious Traditions: Today’s Challenges for Jews and Catholics from Secularism to Intermarriage,” was co-sponsored by the Archbishop Hughes Institute at Fordham and the Jewish Community Center. Steinfels, a University Professor at Fordham and religion columnist for The New York Times, is the author of A People Adrift: The Crisis of the Roman Catholic Church in America(Simon & Schuster, 2003). Rabbi Levithan, a conservative rabbi, was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and works extensively with interfaith couples and prospective converts, and is herself a convert to Judaism.
