NEW YORK—In observance of International Women’s Day, the Fordham Institute for Women and Girls is hosting the symposium “Human Trafficking: A Global and Local Women’s Issue” on Wednesday, March 8, at 5 p.m. in the 12th Floor Lounge, Lowenstein Center, Lincoln Center campus.
The forum will feature presentations by Wenchi Wu Perkins, program director of Vital Voices in Washington, D.C., and Nadra Qadeer, director of Safe Horizon’s anti-trafficking program in New York City.
Vital Voices has been credited with publicizing the issues of human trafficking and domestic violence, helping to establish them as matters of worldwide concern. Safe Horizon is the nation’s largest non-profit victim assistance organization, offering counseling and support for victims of domestic violence, child abuse, rape, gang violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking.

Following the main presentations there will be a panel discussion featuring Susan Berger, Ph.D., professor of political science at Fordham University, Patricia Brownell, Ph.D., professor in the Graduate School of Social Service at Fordham University, and Gemma Solimene, J.D., professor and director of the Immigration Rights Clinic at Fordham Law School.
The symposium is sponsored by the Fordham Institute for Women and Girls, Fordham University’s Women’s Studies Program and the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service International Committee.
