The Fordham University men’s basketball squad takes on the University of Rhode Island Rams (17-13) in an Atlantic 10 Championships quarterfinal game in Atlantic City, N.J. today,March 8 at 2:30 p.m., broadcast live on the MSG television network and WFUV radio (90.7 FM), www.wfuv.org. Fordham defeated the University of Richmond, 63-61, in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday. Junior guard Marcus Stout converted a three-point play with 29.5 seconds left to help the Rams erase a 61-59 deficit. Junior forward Bryant Dunston led all Fordham scorers with 21 points and added seven rebounds and three blocks.
The win improved the Rams’ record to 18-11 overall. They closed out the regular-season Atlantic 10 schedule with a 10-6 conference record, which tied Fordham with Rhode Island for fourth place, and were the most wins for a Fordham team since the Rams joined the conference in 1995-1996. The 18 overall wins are the most for Fordham since 1991-1992, Fordham’s most recent winning season.
Dunston and Stout both received All-Atlantic 10 honors on Monday. Dunston, who was named to the Second Team, is averaging 14.8 points per game, second best on the team and 16th best in the Atlantic 10, along with a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game, sixth best in the conference. He has also registered a team-high 69 blocks and is shooting 54.2 percent (142-262) from the field.
Stout, an Honorable Mention selection, enters the game averaging a team-high 15.6 points per game, 11th best in the Atlantic 10, while also leading the team in three-point field goals made (72) and steals (49). He is ranked among the Atlantic 10 leaders in scoring, three-point field goals and steals.
