Fordham’s Students for Environmental Awareness and Justice (SEAJ) is taking the concept of Earth Day and expanding it into a full week’s worth of events on campus.
The group, which was founded in 2010 and became an officially recognized club last year, is comprised of eco-conscious students from various majors, and is devoted to raising student awareness of sustainability issues both on campus and off.
Earth Week kicks off on Sunday, April 14 with an appearance by Seth Borenstein, an Associated Press science writer who covers astronomy, climate, and disasters.
On Wednesday, April 17, there will be an Earth Week fair on the McGinley Lawn. Among the those expected to attend is Birdie, the mascot for Green NYC, the program spearheaded by the New York City Mayor’s office to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2030. Fordham has been apartner in the effort since its inception. The University is also distributing 2,000 stickers featuring Birdie to students in residence halls. Affixed to light switches, he will remind students to turn off the light when they leave.
