NEW YORK—Paul Kantor, Ph.D., professor of political science at Fordham University, has been awarded a 2005 Fulbright Distinguished Chair, the most selective Fulbright appointment. Kantor will serve as the John Marshall Chair in Political Science at the University of Szeged in Hungary.

Kantor, whose six-month appointment begins in fall 2005, has written extensively on the politics of American cities, federalism, urban planning and development, and American political history. While in Hungary, he’ll teach courses in urban politics and American public policy at the University of Szeged and will deliver lectures at universities throughout the country.

“This is a big leap for me because up until now my work has focused on Western Europe,” said Kantor. “This is an opportunity to get to know Eastern Europe as it undergoes transition to a more democratic and capitalist society.”

His most recent book, Cities in the International Marketplace: The Political Economy of Urban Development  in North America and Western Europe (Princeton University Press, 2002), co-authored with University of Louisville Professor H.V. Savitch, Ph.D., was named Best Book in Urban Politics in 2003 by the American Political Science Association. Last year, Kantor received two Fulbright Senior Specialist designations, which allowed him to lecture in Italy and the Netherlands.
