NEW YORK — Max Lane, the foremost translator of Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Indonesian author and political dissenter, will be the featured speaker at a forum examining Pramoedya’s work onMonday, April 24, at 6 p.m. in McMahon Lounge, McMahon Hall, Lincoln Center campus.
Lane, an author and observer of Indonesian politics since 1972, has translated Pramoedya’sHouse of Glass (William Morrow, 1996) and Child of All Nations (William Morrow, 1993) among other works. A lecturer at the University of Sydney in Australia, he has also translated the plays of W.S. Rendra and other Indonesian writings.
Will Schwalbe, vice president and editor-in-chief of Hyperion Books, and Chris GoGwilt, professor of English at Fordham University, will also participate in the forum. Fordham’s English Department, International Institute for Humanitarian Affairs and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences are sponsoring the forum.
