NEW YORK — Elisabeth A. Frost, Ph.D., assistant professor of English and director of Fordham’s Poets Out Loud program, has been invited by the Rockefeller Foundation to work on her forthcoming book project at the Foundation’s Study and Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy.
From Nov. 6 through Dec. 5, Frost will conduct research for her book, titled In Another Tongue: Image, Text, and Body in Feminist Visual Art and Poetry, while interacting with a diverse group of scholars and artists on a historic estate on Lake Como, Italy. Frost is one of 150 recipients of the residency accepted for 2003 and was selected from an applicant pool of more than 800. She also received a Fordham faculty fellowship for the 2003 fall semester to work on the book.
The Bellagio Study and Conference Center allows scholars, scientists, artists, writers and policymakers from all over the world to pursue their creative and scholarly work in a serene environment. Applicants seeking this unique research opportunity are accepted based on the potential of their proposed projects, the geographical diversity of their homelands and their capacity to contribute to the intellectual mix of life at the center. The environment also offers interdisciplinary, intercultural networking opportunities.
Frost, who joined the Fordham faculty in 1996, is the author of The Feminist Avant-Garde in American Poetry (Iowa State University Press, 2003). Fordham’s Poets Out Loud program was founded in 1992 and presents a series of poetry readings during the academic year, each one featuring the work of well-known poets who visit the University to share their artistry with students, faculty and others.
