Medical Aid in Dying in New York State: Implementation Experience at Eight Months

Completion of this class will result in the receipt of two (2) continuing education hours.

This is the third and final class in the Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) series. It will review the experience of implementing the law at the eight-month point. Challenges encountered on the ground across settings and communities will be presented, along with next steps for addressing these challenges. Experience of people with intellectual disabilities will be discussed. Risks of structural coercion will be discussed in the contexts of institutional settings such as correctional care facilities, nursing facilities, and psychiatric centers. Equity and social justice issues, in both palliative care and MAID, will also be discussed.
