Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams will headline the 8th annual Holiday Cheer for FUV concert on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Beacon Theatre.

Tickets for the concert to benefit Fordham’s listener-supported public radio station WFUV (90.7 FM/wfuv.org), went on sale through Ticketmaster on Nov. 9.

Lucinda Williams’ verbally and musically rich songs have been a major influence on American music for more than 25 years. A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and the daughter of poet and literature professor Miller Williams, she won her first Grammy in 1993 for Best Country Song for “Passionate Kisses,” recorded by Mary Chapin Carpenter.

She won the 1999 Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album for her breakthrough release album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road and the 2002 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for “Get Right With God” From her Essence album. Altogether she has been nominated 14 times, including one this year for Best Americana Album for her most recent CD,Blessed.

“Lucinda really epitomizes Rock & Roots Radio,” said WFUV Music Director Rita Houston. “Her music manages to be authentic, sophisticated, sensual, and raw all at the same time, and her live performances are legendary for their energy and honesty. We’re very honored to have her as our headliner this year.”

Holiday Cheer for FUV is supported by Fairway Market and tickets are available through the website.
