The 2009-10 Fordham University men’s basketball team will now have two games at professional arenas this winter.
It was announced that the Fordham-Dayton Atlantic 10 game on Jan. 13 will be played at Madison Square Garden, the “World’s Most Famous Arena.”
The Rams announced previously that their match-up with 2009 Final Four participant Villanova will be played at the Izod Center at 2 p.m. on Dec. 19.
Both the Dayton and the Villanova games are included in the Fordham basketball season ticket packages, which start at just $110.
The Fordham-Dayton contest will follow a Big East battle between St. John’s and Cincinnati. The first game will begin at 7 p.m., with the Rams and Flyers tipping off 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. It will mark the first Fordham appearance at Madison Square Garden since 2002 and the 114th overall.
Fordham has enjoyed some memorable games at Madison Square Garden, one of the most unforgettable being in the 1970-71 season when Fordham took on Marquette University. Marquette entered the game ranked second in the country while the Rams were 11th
Marquette defeated Fordham 85-80, but the 1970-71 Rams went on to the NCAA tournament and finished with a 26-3 record under head coach Digger Phelps, who was assisted by current Fordham Executive Director of Athletics Frank McLaughlin.
