WFUV recently introduced four new programs, including a new City Folk morning show and a Friday night program hosted by Rita Houston. City Folk Morning (5 a.m. to 10 a.m.), co-hosted by Julianne Welby (FCO ’93) and WFUV newcomer Claudia Marshall, blends news, feature stories and interviews with the best of WFUV’s music mix. A distinguished broadcast jour-nalist with a passion for music, Marshall moved to New York in 1995 becoming a reporter for CBS news and later, ABC News. Pete Fornatale (FCO ’67), who began his radio career at WFUV while a Fordham student in the mid 60s, is hosting Mixed Bag on Saturday evenings (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.).
The program, which features new and classic folk, folk-rock and acoustic music, previously ran for 14 years on WNEW-FM and WXRK 9 (K-Rock). The WFUV edition will feature some of Fornatale’s classic interviews as well as new guest segments. Vin Scelsa’s Idiot’s Delight, a longtime program which also ran on WNEW-FM and K-Rock, moves to WFUV’s Saturday night lineup (8 p.m. to 12 a.m.). Scelsa, a pioneer in free-form radio, mixes music, monologue, live per-formance and interviews with musicians and writers. The Whole Wide World with Rita Houston, which airs Friday nights (8 p.m. to 12 a.m.), reflects the host’s wide-ranging taste in music. It will include downloaded songs from online radio stations around the world and Houston will team up with disc jockey’s everywhere, showcasing music other disc jockeys are playing all over the world.
