Savor the Flavor of Arthur Avenue at Ferragosto
Head to Arthur Avenue for Ferragosto, an annual celebration of Italian culture, food, and music that’s been hosted in the heart of the Bronx’s Little Italy for more than 25 years. Sample raviolis, cannolis, and strombolis from the avenue’s longstanding Italian restaurants and bakeries while you revel in the neighborhood’s old-world charm.

Catch a Broadway Show for Less
If you like theater and saving money, NYC Broadway Week is a great way to see some of Broadway’s biggest shows for less. The fall edition offers 2-for-1 tickets to 25 participating productions, including Wicked, Schmigadoon, and The Great Gatsby. Tickets are subject to availability, so get yours ASAP.

Pay What You Wish at the Guggenheim
Spend an afternoon exploring the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and decide how much you want to pay. The museum offers pay-what-you-wish admission every Sunday and Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., giving you a budget-friendly chance to experience the museum’s world-renowned art exhibitions and its iconic Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. Advance tickets become available at 10 a.m. on Sundays and Tuesdays; a limited number of tickets are available on-site.

Paddle on the Bronx River
See the Bronx from a different perspective with a free community paddle at Starlight Park. The beginner-friendly event offers a chance to get out on the Bronx River by canoe or kayak while exploring one of the city’s lesser-known waterways. The event is free, but spots are first come, first served.

Crack a Spine at the Brooklyn Book Festival
One of New York’s biggest literary celebrations is returning this month with the Brooklyn Book Festival. The festival’s Bookend events take place at venues throughout all five boroughs from Sept. 20 to 28, leading up to the flagship Festival Day and Literary Marketplace in Downtown Brooklyn on Sept. 27. This year’s lineup includes bestselling authors like Marlon James, Joyce Carol Oates, and Colson Whitehead, as well as dozens of other emerging journalists, poets, and writers, with most events free to the public.
