Five members of Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education faculty will take part in workshops and panel discussions at Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21’s second annual Celebration of Teaching and Learning on March 23 and 24 at Pier 94 in New York City.

James Hennessy, Ph.D., dean of the Graduate School of Education, will participate in a panel discussion on urban teaching academies hosted by the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future on Friday, March 23. Also on Friday, Joanna Uhry, Ed.D., professor of education, will present a workshop for elementary school teachers on vocabulary in literature meant to be read aloud. And Carol Kahan Kennedy, Ph.D., a principal investigator at the Fordham Center for Educational Partnerships, will host a session on using hypertext to enhance the literacy of at-risk readers.

On Saturday, Barbara P. Heuer, Ed.D, assistant professor and coordinator of the Master of Arts degree program in adult education and human resources, and Arlene Moliterno, Ph.D., clinical professor of education, will discuss digital and text-based strategies to help adolescent and adult learners in accessing and assessing useful information.

Fordham is a sponsor of the two-day conference, dubbed the “world’s fair for educators.” This year, the event focuses on science and global awareness in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the launching of Sputnik and the influence of globalization on families and communities.
