President Tania Tetlow discussed the future of higher education amid the rise of AI and underscored the continued importance of an education grounded in the humanities.

Tetlow said that the rise of AI makes a broad liberal arts education increasingly important rather than less relevant.

“What will be left, by definition, are the jobs that require human skills, which we hope technology won’t ever totally supplant,” Tetlow said, pointing to attributes like empathy, emotional intelligence, creativity and leadership.”
