On Sept. 22 the Classics Department took students on a boat tour of New York City (Navigatio Neo-Eboracensis), which included readings from Johannes De Laet’s Descriptio Utriusque Americae (1633) with running commentary on the early ecology of New York City from Eric Sanderson, senior conservation ecologist at the Wildlife Conservation Society and author of Mannahatta: A Natural History of NYC (Abrams 2009).
